Born in South Shields, 1948, and went to school at St Hildas & Gilbert St infants, Dean Road & Temple Park juniors and then Brinkburn Co. Sec. Modern until 1965 when I joined the RAF. Demobbed in 1978 after 12 years service (really 13.5 because it doesn’t start until you are 18) during which time I served abroad in Oman, Singapore, Malta and the Maldives. Lucky enough to also visit Sri Lanka and Cyprus due to my pastime of Dinghy Racing. Two years driving HGV then back to communications with 8 years in Saudi Arabia then 19 years with Nortel Networks until 2009 when redundancy made me decide to ‘retire’ early. Living in Gloucester since 1974.
Love travelling and while with Nortel Networks travelled extensively training telecom engineers and presenting new products to partner companies. Travel was usually for 1-2 weeks and many places visited more than once. Included Cairo, Beirut, Damascus, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudi (Jeddah, Riyadh and Al-Khobar), Istanbul, Athens, Nicosia, Moscow, Comsomolsk (Ukraine), Oslo, Stockholm, Munich, Bussy St Georges, Milano, Mechernic (Germany), Dallas, Santa Clara, Galway.
